How do I type foreign characters?
When you're in a quiz or activity that requires the use of accents there will be a row of accents at the bottom of the screen. Just click on the one you require and it'll appear in the text box.
How do I remove a student from a class?
If a student leaves your class for any reason you can update Go Vocab to reflect this. Go to the 'Students' tab in the manage section, click on the student you want to delete and click 'Edit', then click the 'Remove student from class' link.
I forgot my password
Students and Teachers can reset their passwords using the reset password link on the login form. We will then send you an email with a link to enter your new password.
How do I add my students to Go Vocab?
Tell your students the class code for their class (this can be found on the Students page) and then they can sign up themselves at govocab.com.
I'm a teacher, how do I get to the quizzes?
When you log in you'll see the student management dashboard. On the top bar there is a dropdown which says 'Teacher Mode', clicking this shows an option to change to student mode. Which allows a teacher to experience Go Vocab as if they were a student.
What are the technical requirements for Go Vocab?
Go Vocab supports all modern browsers and some not so modern browsers. Supported browsers: Google Chrome (recommended) Mozilla Firefox 3+, Safari and Internet Explorer 7, 8 and 9.
Students do need access to a computer to use Go Vocab. This is mostly the case but there are always exceptions. What some of our customers do to get around this is make a computer room at school available for students to use Go Vocab during lunchtimes or after school.
How do I switch between classes?
Most teachers using Go Vocab have multiple classes in the system. You can switch between classes using the dropdown on the top bar which says your current classes name.
The sound isn't working
Sound is enabled automatically. Make sure that the computer you are using has speakers or headphones plugged in. The person next to you might be talking too loud. Your internet connection speed may affect the transfer of the sound from our servers.
Why are my students' profile pictures not visible?
Teachers cannot view students Facebook profile photos in Go Vocab for privacy reasons.
Some of my friends don't display on the dashboard
You need to be Connected to Facebook. Do this by clicking on ‘Settings' in the account drop down and click ‘Connect'. If this still doesn't work then Facebook might be blocked on your school network. Ask your network administrator nicely to enable Facebook for educational purposes. You also need to be Friends with them on Facebook for them to display.
How do I change my profile picture?
If you connect to Facebook then Go Vocab will use your Facebook profile pic. If you don't want to connect to Facebook then on the settings page you can change your default robot avatar to a different robot but cannot upload a photo.
Why didn't I earn the full points on the quiz?
If you've answered some words a lot more than others then you may stop earning points on those words until you catch up on the rest of the words. Go Vocab shouldn't be asking you words you're ahead on very often though, so if this continues to be an issue let us know.
How do I get the free iPod and iPhone App?
Search "Go Vocab" in the App Store.
Multiplayer does not connect
If the towers game is unable to establish a connection, or gets stuck at any stage this may be because it's being blocked by your school firewall, click the "Having Problems?" link on the right side of the game which will help us identify the problem. We're happy to help with making exceptions in firewalls so the site works properly, contact us if you want help with this.
I'm a teacher, how do I get to the quizzes?

How can I make sure my students are learning at a level that’s appropriate for them?
In the lists page you can turn a list on or off to decide whether it's available for your students or not. If you have students at different learning levels, try turning more lists on, and then your students can individually choose to focus on a certain list.

How does the Facebook integration work?
Go Vocab allows students to connect their Go Vocab account with their Facebook account. This enables them to use their Facebook profile picture within Go Vocab and see their Facebook friends who also use Go Vocab. In our experience integrating with Facebook increases students engagement in Go Vocab, but if you have any concerns about this feature please contact us.
Go to the lists page, choose a list, and click 'focus on this list'. If you stay focused on a list after you’ve learnt most or all of the words, you’ll stop earning as many points.
Do you have the NCEA lists?
By default each class has access to the official vocabulary lists provided by NZQA. These default lists cannot be edited or deleted, but you can use words from them in your own lists. If you do not want to teach the NZQA lists, simply switch them to 'off'.
Can I create my own list?
You can create your own word lists on Go Vocab. To do this click 'Create List' on the Lists page. As you start typing in words you will be shown suggested words that are already in the system, if you want to use one of the suggested words just click on it and the fields will be filled in for you. Otherwise you can type out your own word and its translation.
How do I add my students to Go Vocab?

How can I see what words my students are getting wrong?
Go to the Analytics page and you’ll see a list of words under the heading ‘Words your students are struggling with’. These are words that students through-out your class are consistently getting wrong.
How can I have my students focus on certain words first?
On the lists page click prioritise on any lists that you want to be taught first. Then your students will only have words drawn from those lists until they have fully learnt them, in which case they will revert back to learning all the lists that you have turned on.
How do I know Go Vocab is really helping my students?
Go Vocab is based on a space repetition algorithm which ensures students are taught words at the optimal time between correct answers. I’m a teacher, how do I share lists with other schools?
This is done by default when you create a list. If you do not what to make your list available to others, then while creating that list, click on ‘Private’ on the left hand side.
How can I replace my weekly vocab test?
With Go Vocab, you no longer need to set vocabulary tests. Set a weekly target on the lists page and then track your students progress against that target on the students page.
Can students only learn from English to the target language?
Students can choose to translate to or from their target language. All they need to do is click the arrow above the quizzes on the student home page.
I’ve just signed up my school for a free trial, how long does it last?
Teacher accounts are free. Student accounts have a 2 week free trial from when they sign up.
Can we get on site training?
No training is required to use Go Vocab. We're based in Wellington, New Zealand. If you're local we're happy to provide on site training. Otherwise it could be arranged if your school can cover some of the costs. Talk to us about this.
